Terms of Use
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of Shamaaya, a web application that offers reflections inspired by Hindu spiritual texts (“Shamaaya”, “the Service”). Shamaaya is a non-commercial project operated from India (“we”, “us”). By ticking the boxes on the “Before you begin” screen and using Shamaaya, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, please do not use Shamaaya.
1. Important disclaimer: please read
- Shamaaya is an artificial intelligence (AI), not a person. Its replies are generated automatically by an AI model (Claude, provided by Anthropic). No human reviews them before you see them.
- Shamaaya is not a guru, priest, pandit, astrologer or religious authority. Its replies are reflections inspired by texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads and the Vedas. They are not authoritative religious rulings. Hindu traditions hold many valid interpretations, and Shamaaya may not reflect your tradition, sampradaya or teacher.
- Shamaaya is not professional advice. It does not provide medical, psychological, psychiatric, legal, financial or any other professional advice, diagnosis or treatment. Always consult a qualified professional about health, mental health, legal, financial or other important matters. Never ignore or delay professional advice because of something Shamaaya said.
- Shamaaya can be wrong. AI can produce inaccurate, incomplete or misleading content, including incorrect scripture references, quotations or translations. Check anything important against authoritative translations and qualified teachers.
- Shamaaya is not an emergency or crisis service. If you or someone else is in danger, or you are thinking about harming yourself, contact emergency services immediately: dial 112 in India, or call Tele-MANAS on 14416 or 1-800-891-4416 (free, 24×7). Outside India, contact your local emergency number.
- Your decisions are your own. You are solely responsible for any decision you make or action you take after using Shamaaya.
2. Who may use Shamaaya
You must be 18 years of age or older to use Shamaaya. Shamaaya is offered privately to people who have been given its access passcode. Please do not share the passcode without our permission. We may change the passcode or withdraw access at any time, with or without notice.
3. Acceptable use
You agree to use Shamaaya lawfully and respectfully. You must not:
- use Shamaaya for any unlawful purpose, or to create content that is harmful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, obscene or sexually explicit;
- use Shamaaya to insult, disparage or promote hatred or hostility towards any religion, deity, scripture, community, caste or group;
- try to bypass, disable or trick Shamaaya’s safety measures (for example through “jailbreak” or prompt-injection techniques);
- share other people’s personal information without their permission;
- misrepresent Shamaaya’s replies as coming from a human, a religious authority or a qualified professional;
- access Shamaaya through automated means (bots or scrapers), overload it, or interfere with its operation or security;
- use Shamaaya in a way that breaches Anthropic’s Usage Policy, which applies to all use of the AI model behind Shamaaya.
We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaches these Terms.
4. Your content
You keep any rights you have in the messages you send. You permit us and our service providers to process your messages only as needed to generate replies and run the Service, as described in the Privacy Notice. You may use Shamaaya’s replies for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. Replies may be similar to replies given to other people. Please avoid sharing sensitive identifying details, such as full names, phone numbers, addresses or ID numbers, about yourself or others.
5. The Service is provided “as is”
Shamaaya is provided free of charge, on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the Service. This includes its accuracy, reliability, availability or fitness for any purpose. We may change, suspend or discontinue Shamaaya at any time.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss or damage. Nor will we be liable for any loss arising from your reliance on Shamaaya’s replies or from decisions or actions you take based on them. Our total liability to you for all claims relating to Shamaaya will not exceed ₹1,000 (one thousand Indian rupees). Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
7. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of Shamaaya.
8. Third-party services
Shamaaya relies on third-party providers, including Anthropic (AI model) and Render (hosting). Their services are governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for their acts or omissions, but we choose providers that commit to protecting your data.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the version and date above and ask you to agree again before you continue using Shamaaya.
10. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to any rights you have under applicable consumer-protection law, the competent courts in India will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of Shamaaya.
11. Grievances and contact
If you have a question, concern or complaint about Shamaaya or its content, please contact our Grievance Officer at contact@setu.com. We will acknowledge your complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within the time required by applicable law. For complaints about personal data, see section 9 of our Privacy Notice.
